Pastor David Nwosu Watches 90-Year-Old Church Burn to the Ground

In a few months' time, the cornerstone will be laid for a new sanctuary that serves not just as a place of worship, but as a resilient heart for Cedar Rapids. Here, children will gather again for after-school programs, neighbors will share meals in a common kitchen, and community meetings will once more buzz with hopeful conversation. This vision isn’t distant, it’s ready to take shape with your support.

On January 3, 2025, a devastating fire tore through David Nwosu's 90-year-old church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, reducing the beloved building and its attached community center to ash. The structure had stood as both a spiritual anchor and a social hub for over two centuries, serving hundreds of families each month. According to reporting from LastDonor Example, the fire left the congregation of 200 without a permanent home and erased decades of shared memories.

The road from loss to restoration is long. Rebuilding the church and its community center is estimated to cost $150,000. So far, insurance and local fundraising have covered initial assessments, but a significant funding gap remains. Without further assistance, the congregation faces years of renting space or meeting in temporary structures, limiting their ability to serve the neighborhood as they once did.

Your contribution directly fuels each phase of recovery:

• $25,000 helps fund architectural planning and permits
• $50,000 covers foundational construction and structural framing
• $100,000 brings the new community center nearly halfway to completion

Every dollar moves David Nwosu and the entire congregation closer to reclaiming their place in Cedar Rapids.

With your help, this isn’t just a rebuild, it’s a renewal. You’re helping ensure that David and his community can once again gather, grow, and give back where it matters most.
